What's New in the 2018 Ford Escape?

From here in Boone to West Jefferson, people are choosing the new Ford Escape for all their travels. New in the 2018 edition is the SEL edition which adds some nice features without commanding the price of the top of the line Titanium edition. More safety and convenience features are offered throughout the editions as well.

2018 Ford Escape Safety and Technology in Boone, NC

A rearview camera, parental controls for teen drivers, smartphone integration and Bluetooth are among the standard tech features in the new Escape. Moving up to higher trims like the SE, SEL or Titanium adds even more, like a touchscreen interface, voice controls, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation and plenty others for infotainment and convenience. For safety, the Escape offers adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning and intervention, which are available in a special package offered with all trims except the base S.

2018 Ford Escape Performance in Boone, NC

There are three engines offered with the new 2018 Escape, giving you plenty of options. The base four-cylinder is pretty average for a crossover of this size, but you won't have the option for AWD in that setup. The two turbocharged four-cylinders - a 1.5-liter one and a 2.0-liter one - offer you better performance and can be paired with AWD.

2018 Ford Escape Trim Levels

Escape S

The base level of the Escape comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder (168 horsepower), but AWD isn't offered until higher trims. You'll also receive:

  • 17-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, cruise control, A/C, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver seat and a 60/40-split and reclining rear seat.
  • Standard tech includes MyKey parental controls, a 4.2-inch central display, a rearview camera, Sync with AppLink smartphone integration, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player and a USB port.

Escape SE

This is the recommended starting trim, as the S offerings are limited and meant more as business fleet vehicles. The SE comes with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine which boosts your performance up to 179 horsepower, and you can opt for AWD if you choose. On top of the standard features listed above, the SE adds:

  • 17-inch alloys, chrome exterior trim, sound-reducing window glass, roof rails, foglights, a keyless entry keypad, rear privacy glass, dual-zone automatic climate control, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat with lumbar adjustment, heated front seats and more.
  • Two additional feature packages are optional with the SE. The Sport Appearance package adds black 19-inch wheels, black-painted exterior trim, LED daytime running lights, paddle shifters, some leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The Sync 3 tech package adds an 8-inch touchscreen, enhanced voice controls, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, Sync Connect with remote app services and onboard WiFi, upgraded speaker system and dual USB ports.
  • A sunroof, roof rail crossbars, navigation and a tow package (for up to 2,000 pounds) are additional options for the SE edition.
  • Starting with the SE and optional on the two higher trims is the Safe and Smart package. This adds adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and intervention and automatic wipers.
